I’m not off work today unlike my entire family so I’ll be watching the eclipse from the parking lot at work. And I don’t have any glasses or anything so I won’t actually see the eclipse. I do have some welding glass but according to what I’ve read it’s not dark enough.
And I also forgot to get new breakfast stuff to bring to work with me so no breakfast for me. I’m a mess.
So I’ve hardly got anything costume-related to show today because I’m still working on pieces for the pink thing that I’m not showing yet. I ran into difficulties again yesterday and came up with… I think like, Plan D at this point. Trying it out tonight. Fingers crossed! But it’s looking good, I think. I just won’t be able to disassemble it like I wanted to.
Friday I made an extension for my medieval Leia belt:
I had a ton of excess ribbon so I thought I’d hang some from the back. Posted it on instagram and the consensus was, do it but trim it off where it would meet the ground, not make it as long as the train is. So I did that, got it sewn on.
I also made the undersleeves for the dress.
I did an outer layer of the sparkley white stuff I used for the bun covers. It’s a little over the top and not really medieval-y but I don’t care.
Saturday we ran a ton of errands. But first I discovered Luna loooooooooves the dog kennel.
It’s Indy’s old kennel, we got it out last weekend when the puppy was here and just left it out since Kes was coming over this weekend. I opened the door up and she got in and was rolling around, and then just chilling out in there.
If it wasn’t so big i’d leave it out for her. Maybe I need to get her one of those little cat hut things.
So then we ran out to Sur La Table since it just opened and Chase wanted to check it out. They had these neat rubber metallic placements that if you joined them up, would look really cool on a costume. They gave me Daenerys vibes.
Came in gold or silver. Yeah I was racking my brain trying to think of what I could use them for because they were so neat.
Then we went to the Apple Store and Paper Source. Didn’t buy anything in either place, they were there so we wandered around. Paper Source ended up being really neat and they had some really cool paper:
And then to Hobby Lobby for more stuff for the pink thing and then to Target where I once again caved:
Then got back to work. After dinner I ran out and picked up Kes and the sunset on the drive there was amazing.
So Kes is staying with us while my parents are out of town – they went east to watch the eclipse.
I finished up the last of the hand-sewing on the pink thing – I could add more sequins to the applique but I don’t think that I will at this point.
Got the straps sewn in place finally, the shoulder ruffle finished and attached, the applique on the hip all done.
Sunday we didn’t go anywhere. Chase was working on his scooter all day so I decided to pack up what I could – since everything but the pink thing and Mon Mothma are done. It’s going to be a tight fit to get everything in 2 garment bags, the medium size bin, one wig box and my duffel bag. Glad we have the roller cart to get everything to the hotel but getting upstairs with it all on friday morning is going to be a nightmare. May have to take a couple of trips. That’s going to take forever. It is what it is!
Luna enjoyed the packing process. She looooooooooves the garment rack so she camped out down there most of the day. Then she discovered my mostly empty duffel bag and made that her home. She slept in it pretty much all afternoon/evening.
Kes was sitting by the door looking all forlorn so I added a soundtrack to send to mom.
I have more Dragon Con thoughts — trying to figure out when to wear what — but I’ll make that a separate post.
Oh! I nearly forgot. Here’s that Padme I was working on last week. She’s still not done, I wanted to keep messing with it this week, but colour’s on and start of shading.
